The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has commended firemen at the Bonny Fire Station for their swift response to a fire incident along Commonwealth Road in Akiama Community.
Pepple, in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Amb. Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, on Wednesday, said the firemen’s prompt intervention helped prevent further damage to lives and property.
The firemen responded to the incident as first responders and successfully brought the situation under control before additional support from Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) firemen arrived at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire originated from an apartment where occupants were cooking.
People said in recognition of the dedication, courage and prompt response of the firemen on duty, the chairman approved a cash reward of ₦500,000 for the team.
He directed the Secretary of the Board of the Bonny Fire Station to receive the money for onward presentation to the deserving firemen.
“As a responsible government, we will continue to encourage and appreciate the selfless service of our gallant firemen and their unwavering commitment to saving lives and protecting property in our communities,” the chairman stated.
