The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has received two boat ambulances from the Rivers State Government to strengthen emergency response services across riverine communities in the council.
The ambulances were delivered through the Rivers State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System at a handover ceremony held at Bonny Coal Beach on Friday.
Speaking during the presentation, the Head of Primary Healthcare in Bonny Local Government Area, Dr. Tonye Lawson Jack, said the boats are equipped to improve emergency medical access in rural and hard-to-reach areas. He noted that the initiative will help residents who struggle to reach health facilities during night-time and critical emergencies, ensuring quicker medical intervention.
Dr. Jack said the deployment is aimed at removing transportation barriers that often delay urgent care in riverine settlements. The handover was conducted alongside the Supervisor of Health and Environment, Sir Hayford Banigo.
The chairman was also briefed on the Bonny Malaria Elimination Project, a joint intervention involving the Federal Government at the local level, host communities, and technical partners, including Nigeria LNG Limited. The project targets malaria eradication in Bonny and seeks to make the area a national reference point for malaria elimination efforts.
Chairman Pepple endorsed the emergency ambulance initiative and the malaria project, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improved public healthcare through strategic partnerships and targeted programmes.
