Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have launched an attack on a Nigerian Army base located in Mandaragirau under the 25 Brigade, Sector 2, in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) dead while on duty.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Haruna Sani.
According to him, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau were able to repel and contain the assault despite heavy rainfall and poor visibility that hampered operations.
He explained that the attackers struck around 0300 hours on Friday morning, attempting to force their way into the base under severe weather conditions, but were met with stiff resistance from the troops who successfully prevented a full breach of the facility.
