The factional leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), headed by National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, has rejected reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, maintaining that it has already completed its internal nomination process and selected Chris Uba as its flag bearer.
The faction insisted that Atiku “is not, and has never been,” the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
In a statement issued by Gombe, the group said the clarification was necessary to protect the integrity of the country’s democratic process and prevent public misinformation.
The faction also distanced itself from a group allegedly led by David Mark, describing it as a self-appointed faction with no official recognition within the ADC.
It maintained that the group is not a legitimate organ of the party and therefore has no constitutional, legal, or Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised authority to conduct congresses, primaries, or make binding decisions on behalf of the ADC.
