Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday appeared before the presidential screening committee of the African Democratic Congress at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primaries.
Atiku, considered one of the leading aspirants for the ADC presidential ticket, arrived at the venue alongside notable political allies, including Aminu Tambuwal, Emeka Ihedioha, and Abubakar Malami.
Reports indicate that the former vice president completed the screening exercise successfully as part of preparations for the party’s presidential primary slated for May 25, 2026. The screening committee is headed by Liyel Imoke.
The exercise comes shortly after the ADC announced a postponement of the screening process, citing logistical and security concerns. Earlier speculation surrounding Atiku’s health had also been dismissed by his associates.
Since joining the ADC last year, Atiku has continued consultations aimed at strengthening opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections. His participation in the screening exercise is seen as a significant step in his quest for the party’s presidential nomination.
