Hours after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, extended its ongoing strike, Bashir El Rufai; son of Kaduna State Governor has described the union as useless and called of its scrapping.
Bashir, in a statement on Twitter said ASUU should be replaced with educators who care about Nigerian students.
“ASUU is a very useless union. They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country,” he said.
ASUU had declared the commencement of a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the University of Lagos.
The union is seeking improved welfare, the revitalisation of public universities, and academic autonomy among others. Several meetings between government representatives and ASUU have ended in deadlock
