The Aso Rock Presidential Villa will fully disconnect from the national electricity grid by March 2026 following the completion of its solar power installation, State House Permanent Secretary, Temitope Fashedemi, has revealed.
Fashedemi made this known on Wednesday while defending the State House’s 2026 budget before the Senate Committee on Special Duties at the National Assembly complex in Abuja. Proceedings of the session were later conveyed to State House correspondents by the Presidency.
He explained that the solar project was completed toward the end of 2025 and has been undergoing testing since December to ensure stability and efficiency.
Addressing the committee chaired by Senator Kaka Lawan (Borno Central), the Permanent Secretary said the State House is preparing for a full transition to solar energy within the projected timeline.
He expressed confidence that the switch would lead to substantial savings in electricity costs and cited the State House Medical Centre as an example demonstrating the effectiveness of the solar power system already in use.
