The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the direct primary system for the selection of the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Under the adopted process, registered APC members across the country will vote directly to determine the party’s flag bearer.
The development sets the stage for a contest between incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is seeking a second term in office, and Edo State businessman, Osifo Stanley, who recently purchased the APC presidential nomination and expression of interest forms valued at ₦100 million.
The party leadership said the decision to adopt direct primaries was aimed at giving all party members the opportunity to participate in the candidate selection process and strengthen internal democracy within the APC.
Further details on the timetable and guidelines for the presidential primary are expected to be released by the party in the coming days.
