The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Monday.

According to the ADC, Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from the country’s six geopolitical zones.

The party noted that the decision came after the successful conclusion of its presidential primary, where Amaechi emerged as runner-up, securing significant support from party members across the federation.

ADC described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic alliance that brings together two experienced political figures with the capacity to address Nigeria’s current challenges and drive national development.

The party highlighted Amaechi’s extensive record in public service, noting that he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State for two terms, and later Minister of Transportation, where he oversaw major transportation and rail modernization projects.

According to the statement, Amaechi’s experience across both the legislative and executive arms of government would provide valuable support to a future ADC administration.

The ADC also emphasized Amaechi’s political influence in the South-South region and across Southern Nigeria, describing him as a reform-minded administrator with a proven ability to build alliances across ethnic, regional, and political divides.

The party said the Atiku-Amaechi ticket represents a national coalition capable of bridging regional interests while offering experience in governance, economic management, public administration, and nation-building.

“At a time when millions of Nigerians are demanding competent leadership, economic revival, job creation, security, and national unity, the Atiku-Amaechi ticket sends a clear message that the ADC is prepared to govern, unite the nation, and deliver results,” the statement said.

The party expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen its coalition and inspire hope among Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

ADC also called on party members, coalition partners, civil society organisations, youth groups, women leaders, and other Nigerians to support its campaign for what it described as a stronger, safer, and more prosperous nation.
