The Action Alliance candidate in the recently concluded Rivers South East Senatorial District by-election, Hon. Douglas Fabeke, has challenged the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Olaka Nwogu, declaring that he has submitted evidence of alleged electoral irregularities to a legally constituted panel.
Fabeke said he is seeking justice through lawful means, stressing that every citizen has the right to exercise their freedom and defend their opinions as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and the United Nations Charter.
According to him, about 70 percent of the evidence submitted was recorded live, making it difficult to dispute.
The Action Alliance candidate alleged that some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prevented voters from casting ballots for their preferred candidates and called for those found culpable to be held accountable.
He added that some of the evidence against INEC officials has also been reported to the police, expressing confidence that the legal process would establish what he described as the true outcome of the election.
Fabeke maintained that the review of the evidence would reveal the actual votes cast and determine the rightful winner of the poll, which was officially won by Senator Olaka Nwogu of the PDP.
INEC has declared Senator Olaka Nwogu of the PDP the winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District by-election.
