Operatives of the Abia State Police Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) have reportedly arrested a man captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman.
The suspect was apprehended on Friday, June 20, following widespread outrage over a video that showed him holding the woman in a chokehold, repeatedly punching her in the face, and allegedly threatening to kill her.
The disturbing footage, which circulated widely on social media, drew public condemnation and prompted swift action from the police.
According to reports, investigators traced the suspect to the Ogbor Hill area of Aba, where he was arrested by VCRU operatives.
The Abia State Police Command has yet to release further details on the identity of the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the incident, but investigations are ongoing.
The arrest has been welcomed by members of the public, who called for justice for the victim and stricter measures against gender-based violence.
