The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, has approved ₦50 million as bursary support for 1,000 Bonny students pursuing tertiary education across the country.
Chief Press Secretary to Bonny Local Government Council, Amb. Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said, each successful beneficiary will receive ₦50,000 under the scheme aimed at reducing the financial burden of education on students and their families.
The bursary application forms were formally presented to the leadership of the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS), led by its National President, Comrade Tumini Sonny Jumbo, to facilitate the application process for eligible students.
Speaking at the presentation on behalf of the council chairman, Chief of Staff, Elder Promise Bristol, said the initiative was a strategic investment in the future of Bonny Kingdom and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to education and human capital development.
He said the scheme was designed to encourage academic excellence and ensure that financial difficulties do not prevent Bonny students from pursuing their education.
Pepple said, “This administration believes that no Bonny child should drop out of school because of financial constraints. This ₦50 million bursary for 1,000 of our students demonstrates our resolve to support education, encourage academic excellence, and secure the future of Bonny LGA.”
The chairman charged NUBS to ensure a transparent, fair and inclusive application and selection process, giving deserving students from communities and tertiary institutions across the country equitable access to the bursary.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to programmes that empower young people, expand educational opportunities and promote the sustainable development of Bonny LGA.
