The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has raised concerns over alleged discrimination in the approval of funds for private universities in the state, while also criticising the political activities of former Governor Nyesom Wike.
The party’s spokesperson in Rivers State, Chizi Enyi, made the allegations in a statement on Thursday.
Enyi alleged that the same ₦6 billion reportedly rejected for Pamo University was approved for Wigwe University by the Rivers State House of Assembly in the 2026 budget, claiming that the decision was influenced by ethnic considerations.
He questioned why people from other ethnic groups had remained silent over the alleged disparity, saying the situation could have consequences for their children in the future.
“Are you aware that the same #6b rejected for Pamo University was approved for Wigwe University by Rivers State House of Assembly in the 2026 budget because Wigwe is an Ikwerre man? Yet people from other ethnic groups have remained mute. I hope it will not affect their children”, he asked.
The ADC spokesperson also questioned why Wike, as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, allegedly uses security outriders outside Abuja.
Enyi further alleged that Wike had spent over ₦4 billion on media chats, despite not being the Minister of Information.
“Apart from Wike, which other FCT minister has used outriders outside Abuja. Why has Wike wasted over #4billon for unfruitful media chats even when he is not the minister for information”, he queried.
He also recalled the relationship between Amaechi and Wike during Amaechi’s tenure as governor, alleging that commissioners of police posted to Rivers State would visit Wike after meeting the governor.
According to him, Amaechi did not allow a similar arrangement when he later served as Minister of Transportation.
“Are you aware that when Amaechi was governor, any commissioner of police posted to Rivers State will visit Wike after visiting the governor? Did Amaechi allow same when he was the minister,” Enyi added.
Enyi stated that the ADC represents an alternative political platform capable of providing what he described as a new direction for Nigerians.
The Assembly had yet to respond to the allegations as of press time.
