The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged state governments to urgently implement outstanding aspects of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement to prevent another disruption of academic activities.
NANS reacted to ASUU’s decision authorising 20 university branches to issue 14-day ultimatums over the agreement, with Nasarawa State University, Keffi, already on strike.
NANS President, Comr. Akinteye Babtee Babatunde, in a statement, appealed to ASUU not to shut universities, warning that students should not bear the consequences of disputes between lecturers and government.
NANS also urged affected governors to immediately resolve outstanding issues with academic staff, stressing that avoidable strikes could cause delayed graduations and further disruption to students’ education.
The association warned that governors who fail to act despite increased state allocations would be acting irresponsibly and urged them to put students’ interests first.
