THE State High Court sitting in Rivers State has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for the brutal murder of Ex-Niger Delta Activist Soboma George alongside a groundnut seller, 10 years ago in Port Harcourt.
Justice George Omereji in his ruling Today, convicted the defendants on three count charges, bordering on conspiracy and the murder of Soboma alongside the groundnut seller. The Judge sentenced the three of them to death by hanging, directing that they be tied on their neck till they are confirmed dead by the relevant authorities.
The conviction of the defendants was made possible following the confession of an eyewitness and other evidences brought against them by the prosecution. The judge ruled that the prosecution was able to prove ITS case beyond reasonable doubts.
The presiding judge furthermore noted that the statements by the defendants further indicted them. They had earlier confessed to killing of Soboma George because he wanted to kill them for refusing to kill current Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi and former deputy governor of the state, Tele Ikuru, Omereji said.
