Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has predicted the emergence of a larger “Rainbow Coalition” of politicians backing President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remarks on Friday in Abuja while inspecting ongoing FCT projects, following the recent visit of Osun State Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke, to President Tinubu.
The minister said Adeleke’s engagement with Tinubu was part of a broader political realignment, dismissing claims that the development was an opposition affair.
He said the current political landscape lacked a clearly defined leading opposition party, citing the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“What happened last night is meeting to rebuild a larger Rainbow Coalition,” Wike said, adding that Adeleke was supporting Tinubu despite belonging to a different political party.
Wike predicted that more politicians would join the coalition in the coming weeks, saying the development would strengthen Tinubu’s chances in 2027.
He also dismissed claims by some African Democratic Congress (ADC) members that they contributed significantly to Adeleke’s electoral victory, accusing them of trying to “harvest where they never planted.”
On the possible reactions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to his political engagements, Wike said he was not concerned, insisting that his focus was securing victory for his political camp.
