The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for its 2027 presidential ticket, with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi emerging as the only aspirant to obtain the forms.
Sources within the party disclosed that Obi was the sole contender before the deadline for the purchase of presidential forms ended on Sunday, May 17, 2026, placing him in a favourable position ahead of the party’s nomination process.
Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra State, recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress after exiting the African Democratic Congress, a development that has continued to generate reactions in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced that although the window for presidential forms has closed, the deadline for governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly aspirants has been extended to midnight on May 24, 2026.
The party further stated that screening of aspirants will commence on May 19 and continue until May 26, while the nomination stage for successful candidates is scheduled to hold between May 20 and May 26, 2026.
According to the NDC, aspirants are required to submit academic credentials, voter’s identification, birth certificates or sworn declarations of age, passport photographs, party membership documents, and six copies of their curriculum vitae as part of the screening process.
