Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, questioning his leadership credentials and past record as Governor of Anambra State.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service held in Abuja, Wike challenged the idea of Obi running for Nigeria’s presidency, citing his alleged failure to conduct local government elections throughout his eight-year tenure as governor.
“You said Peter Obi will be president — president where?” Wike asked pointedly. “For eight years as governor, he never conducted a single local government election. Yet you want to govern a country. Are you the governor of all the local governments?”
Wike’s remarks drew reactions from attendees and stirred debate among political observers, especially as tensions continue to build ahead of the 2027 general elections.
