The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Charles Wobodo, has flagged off a skills acquisition programme aimed at empowering residents with practical skills and promoting self-reliance.
The programme was launched on Thursday at the council headquarters in Isiokpo, with Wobodo assuring participants who successfully complete the training of starter packs to support them in applying their newly acquired skills.
Ambassador Chiwendu Wali, media aide to the chairman, in a statement said Wobodo urged the trainees to remain committed, disciplined and dedicated throughout the programme, stressing that it was designed to improve their livelihoods and promote economic independence.
He also appealed to the resource persons to exercise patience while training the participants and ensure effective knowledge transfer. He urged the instructors to report any challenges to the council for prompt attention.
The chairman further noted that the programme could expose participants to opportunities for personal and professional growth through interactions with prominent individuals and professionals.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Jezec Driving, Port Harcourt, Mr Collins Ezebuike, commended Wobodo and the council for providing residents with the opportunity to acquire practical skills.
Ezebuike noted that skills acquisition initiatives could improve participants’ employment prospects, strengthen their competencies and promote economic independence.
