Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has announced the lockdown of some areas in Port Harcourt City Local Government area and some parts of the state. This is with effect from tomorrow, April 17, 2020.
According to the governor, the lockdown is set in place to check the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The governor in a state-wide broadcast today, announced the total lockdown of Creek road, including Prison junction, Nembe waterside, Cultural Centre, Yam Zone and Ahoada Street”.
Other areas affected include, Diobu area – education bus stop, Kalabari by Odi Street, Afikpo Street, Gambia Street, the entire Ikoku Spare part zone, Rivers State University roundabout, and Abali Park under the flyover.
He accused the people of these areas of disobeying the orders of the government and endangering the lives of Rivers people.
Wike also said there is presently no index case of the coronavirus in the State, as the second case, who recently tested negative has been discharged.
Furthermore, he urged residents of the state to maintain good respiratory hygiene in line with the directives of the World Health Organisation.
