Barely 24 hours after the robbery incident that claimed the life of Arise TV correspondent, Sommie Maduagwu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described Abuja as one of the safest cities in Nigeria.
In his Independence Day anniversary message on Wednesday, Wike credited the relative peace in the FCT to the combined efforts of government security measures and the commitment of residents to peaceful coexistence.
“Residents have also remained intentional about living together in peace and harmony in spite of a few distractions. Consequently, the FCT has become one of the most peaceful places to reside in the entire country,” the Minister stated.
Wike stressed that Abuja’s calm atmosphere was not a coincidence but the result of deliberate security strategies and the cooperation of citizens.
Meanwhile, the Minister had in a statement commiserated with the family of the late journalist and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those behind the deadly robbery.
