Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has accused former NIMASA DG, Dakuku Peterside of frustrating the Shore Protection Project meant to stop erosion in Queens Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, when he was state commissioner for works.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Opobo-Andoni Unity Road on Saturday, Wike alleged that the Shore project was abandoned after it was awarded at the cost of three billion naira.
He said the sum of two billion naira was paid by the previous administration to the contractor.
The governor, said the project may be continued if they know who the project was awarded to.
Wike, urged the paramount ruler of Opobo Kingdom, Dandison Jaja to find out from their son, who the contract was awarded to, after which the government will know what to do.
“It was awarded to the tune of N3.1billion. The company collected N2 billion and ran away from the site. Amayanabo of Opobo, go and ask your son, who is that company that collected the money and refused to do the Queen’s Town shore protection,” he said.
He also promised to reclaim more lands for the Opobo people in a bid to decongest Port Harcourt City.
