Wigwe University has commissioned a sculpture in honour of its late founder, Herbert Wigwe, as part of efforts to preserve his legacy and inspire future generations.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the university’s campus in Isiokpo, Rivers State, and was led by the Chairperson of the Governing Council, Amina Augie. The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Marwan Al-Akaidi, alongside members of staff and students.
Speaking at the event, university officials noted that the sculpture symbolises Wigwe’s vision for academic excellence and leadership, which the institution aims to uphold.
The tribute also serves as a source of inspiration for students, encouraging them to pursue innovation and impact in line with the founder’s ideals.
Herbert Wigwe died in a helicopter crash a few years ago alongside his wife and son, a tragic incident that drew widespread reactions across Nigeria and beyond.
