The Nigeria Railway Cooperation Authority, NRC has reacted to the demolition of makeshift structures at the railway axis of Mile 1 Market in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mr. Samuel Adoyebi, state spokesperson of the NRC, Samuel Adoyebi in a statement yesterday, said the demolition of the makeshift structures is to enable the construction of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri narrow gauge railway project.

He said the affected persons were informed of the project and given enough time to vacate the area.

Meanwhile, some of the affected traders have called on the government to provide an alternative place for them to continue their business as their source of livelihood have been destroyed.

They alleged that they were not given enough time to vacate the place.
