The World Health Organisation, WHO, has issued a stern warning that the dreaded COVID-19 would not be the last pandemic to ravage the world.
Director General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus isssued the warning in a statement marking the first International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.
He called for a better public health system to ensure that children and the forthcoming generation inherit a safer and more sustainable world.
“We must all learn the lessons the pandemic is teaching us,” he said.
“This includes investment in preparedness capacities not just in the health sector but rather an ‘all-of-government and all of the social approach.”
“History tells us that this won’t be the last pandemic and epidemics are a fact of life,” he added.
