The Nigerian Union of Railway Workers, has threatened to embark on a 3-day warning strike from November 18 to November 20, 2021 over poor welfare packages.
Comrade Segun Esan, General Secretary of the union, disclosed this in a chat with journalists yesterday.
He stated that letters have been sent to the Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi and Chairman of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria.
He said it is shocking that the government spends billions building railway lines across the country but no commitment in improving the welfare of workers.
He pointed out that the salary regime of the Nigerian Railway workers is the worst of all salary structures available to the parastatals under the supervision of the federal ministry of transport.
Esan, also said their demands include an increase in the salaries of NRC staff, incorporation of life insurance and payment of promoted staff arrears from 2018 to date, among others.
