Passengers aboard the Warri–Itakpe passenger train were thrown into panic on Monday after four coaches derailed while the train was in motion, leaving several people injured.
The incident occurred along the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor, a major route connecting Nigeria’s South-South and North-Central regions. Eyewitnesses said the derailment caused confusion among passengers, many of whom were jolted by the sudden incident and rushed to safety.
Some passengers reportedly sustained injuries, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Rescue teams and railway officials were deployed to the scene to assist affected passengers, evacuate those onboard, and secure the damaged section of the track.
Authorities have yet to disclose the exact number of injured persons or confirm whether there were any fatalities. The cause of the derailment also remains unknown.
