Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has once again called on the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to wake up from its slumber and check the excesses of the APC led federal government.
The governor said this yesterday, while reacting to a viral video showing the Ondo state Commissioner of Police Bolaji Salami, trying to stop the state Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi from leaving the state Government House. This was due to reports that the Deputy Governor was about dumping the APC for the PDP.
Wike stated that when his security aides were removed, the NGF did not say anything as they have equally kept silent concerning the ordeal of the Ondo state deputy governor. He equally said that it is disheartening that the Police have abandoned their core mandate of providing internal security and are now meddling in internal security. The police have been reduced to a level where they are being controlled by politicians to do whatever they want in the country, he asserted.
Wike also said that the deputy governor has the right of association, as he is free and backed by the constitution to associate with any group, he chooses to.
The Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi has since announced his defection to the PDP.
