The administration of President Donald Trump will closely monitor Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, according to Riley Moore, a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives.
Speaking in an interview with NoireTV, excerpts of which were shared on the platform’s social media pages on Sunday, Moore said the conduct and outcome of Nigeria’s next general election would be closely watched by both himself and the US administration.
Responding to a question on whether the United States could do more to support credible elections in Nigeria, the lawmaker said Washington would be paying “very close attention” to how the elections are conducted and executed.
He noted that the US government would monitor the electoral process to ensure developments surrounding the polls remain under close observation.
Moore also revealed that the US House of Representatives is considering an appropriations bill containing provisions related to Nigeria, with a particular emphasis on religious freedom and US security assistance to the country.
