The United States is planning to withdraw about 200 American troops deployed to Nigeria earlier in 2026 to support efforts against Islamist militants.
According to a report by The New York Times, the withdrawal is expected to be completed by late September.
However, the move does not signal an end to the US security partnership with Nigeria. The report said smaller teams of American trainers and intelligence personnel would remain in the country to support Nigerian-led counterterrorism operations.
