The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has warned members of the public against a fake Facebook account impersonating its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chike Princewill R. Chike.
The university said the unauthorised account had been used to send messages to unsuspecting members of the public in the Vice-Chancellor’s name.
In a press release issued on Friday, the Head of Information, Publications and Public Relations of the university, Dr Sam Kpenu, clarified that the Vice-Chancellor does not operate a Facebook account.
The university urged the public not to respond to messages from the account, send money, disclose personal or financial information, or engage in any transactions with its operators.
It also dissociated the Vice-Chancellor and the university’s management from the account and any activities carried out through it.
UNIPORT advised members of the public to remain vigilant, report the fake account to Facebook and verify official information through the university’s recognised communication channels.
It directed the public to visit its official website, www.uniport.edu.ng, for verified information.
“The Facebook account is fake. Do not fall prey!” the statement warned.
