The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has dissolved the activities of its Students’ Union (SU), including the three arms of the union, hall representatives and all other student union activities, with immediate effect.
The directive was conveyed in a memorandum dated July 19, 2026, issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs and addressed to all executive members of the Students’ Union.
According to the memorandum, the dissolution was ordered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Princewill Chike, and will remain in force until further notice.
Following the dissolution, all executive members have been directed to immediately hand over all union property, official documents, financial records, keys, identification materials and any other items belonging to the Students’ Union to the Dean of Student Affairs.
The university also instructed the affected officers to make themselves available to appear before an investigative panel whenever invited to give an account of their stewardship while in office.
The memorandum warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract appropriate disciplinary action.
