The bodies of the two remaining victims of a boat accident along the Robertkiri waterways in Kula Kingdom, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, have been recovered four days after the incident.
The victims were identified as Davies Opiri, Secretary of the Kula Community Development Committee (CDC), and David Sukubo, younger brother of the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Their recovery brings the total number of bodies retrieved from the accident to seven, following an earlier operation that recovered five victims.
The search and rescue operation involved community leaders, divers, local vigilantes and fishermen.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Kula Kingdom media team said the bodies were discovered around the creeks and mangrove forests in the Robertkiri axis.
According to the statement, the remains were subsequently taken to a morgue in Port Harcourt after the victims’ relatives formally identified them at the Abonnema Divisional Police Headquarters.
Seven people died in the accident, while eight others were rescued alive after a speedboat carrying 15 passengers capsized on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly occurred during an operation involving the movement of a crude oil vessel from the Kula coastal waters.
