Twitter is placing ban on all comments and posts causing unrest and encouraging conspiracy theorists to attack 5G masts across the globe. This is based on the allegations that 5G is behind the coronavirus outbreak.
There have been series of debates and controversies linking the 5G network and COVID-19, since its installation began.
The Twitter safety team said on Wednesday. “We have broadened our guidance on unverified claims that incite people to engage in harmful activity, could lead to the destruction or damage of critical 5G infrastructure, or could lead to widespread panic, social unrest, or large-scale disorder,” .
Some of the masts have been vandalised in some cities due to the belief. Recently, one of the masts on east London, including one serving Birmingham’s Nightingale Hospital were destroyed. An act which drew criticism from world leaders
Meanwhile Twitter has assured that it is refining its policy to deal with the latest developments.
In Nigeria, the argument equally ensued. While some believe that the 5G is behind the virus, others argued that it is simply an advancement in ICT.
