Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, says the Federal Government of Nigeria has no right to arrest anyone for using Twitter.
The Court in a ruling on Tuesday said the micro-blogging app is a fundamental right.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), had dragged the Federal Government before the court over the ban on Twitter.
SERAP in a statement on its Facebook Page after the ruling said that the interim injunction issued by the court, stated that the government should obey the order pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
Counsel to SERAP, Femi Falana in his reaction said: “the intervention of the ECOWAS Court is a timely relief for millions of Nigerians using Twitter who have been threatened with prosecution under the provision of the Penal Code relating to sedition.”
