Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike stated this on Monday during a media chat in Abuja, while reacting to comments by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who predicted that Tinubu would place third in the 2027 polls.
In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, El-Rufai had said Tinubu had “no pathway to win,” insisting his calculations showed the President would finish third. He further questioned the state of the country under Tinubu’s leadership, saying Nigerians had not seen any sign of good intentions.
Responding, Wike faulted El-Rufai’s analysis, describing it as baseless and speculative. He questioned why the former governor failed to indicate who, in his estimation, would place first and second if Tinubu were to come third.
The FCT Minister also dismissed suggestions that Labour Party’s Peter Obi could be a major contender in 2027, noting that although Obi secured about six million votes in 2023, the political dynamics have shifted.
Wike insisted that, contrary to El-Rufai’s projections, Tinubu remains the candidate to beat in the next general election.
