The Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, says the weekly Thursday sanitation in the state is an initiative of traders as it is not approved by the state government.
Sole Administrator of the Agency, Felix Obuah disclosed this during a meeting with youth presidents and community leaders of Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas on Tuesday.
He said while the agency is not against the Thursday sanitation, it will not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of waste outside the approved hours of 6 PM to midnight at unauthorized sites.
Obuah, urged residents of the State to obey sanitation laws, adding that Marshalls would be employed in different communities to ensure that people comply with directives of the Agency.
He furthermore, urged leaders in all communities of the state to ensure the cleaning of their surroundings.
