The Tai Local Government Council in Rivers State has disowned a circulating notice purportedly restricting video recording, live streaming, photography, audio recording and other forms of media coverage at official functions involving the Chairman, Hon. Dr. Friday Mbakpone Okpe.
The Council, through the Office of the Chief Press Secretary, said the notice was not authorised by the Chairman and should be disregarded.
In a disclaimer dated August 22, 2026, the council clarified that no blanket directive had been issued prohibiting members of the public, journalists or media practitioners from photographing, recording or documenting activities at the Chairman’s official engagements.
The council said the Chairman remained committed to transparency, responsible communication, openness and professional engagement with the media and the public in the coverage of government activities.
It urged journalists and members of the public to disregard the earlier notice and rely on verified information communicated through officially recognised channels of the Tai Local Government Council.
The council also apologised for any confusion or inconvenience caused by the unauthorised notice.
