The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers state, Hon. Rowland Sekibo has denied claims that he is not serious with the issue of security in the area following an attack on two speed boats in the area by sea pirates.
The Community Development Chairman of Kula, Mr. Tekenari had in a statement accused Sekibo of doing nothing to curb crime in the area.
Sekibo, who in a chat with journalists on Tuesday said his administration is doing a lot in synergy with security operatives to ensure the safety of lives and property in the area, added that the council lacks the resources to procure gun boats needed to secure the waterways.
According to him, even if the resources were there, they still need approval from higher authorities to do so.
He also assured that the council is working with security agencies to bring the attackers to book.
