Lawyer to Gracious David West who was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, for the killing of girls in hotels, Vincent Chukwu has reacted to claims that one year after his client’s conviction, he is yet to appeal the judgement.
A lawyer with the state Ministry of Justice had few days ago said the ruling was yet to be appealed by the defense team one year after.
But, Mr Chukwu in a statement yesterday, said an appeal had been filed and that he has complied with the necessary process on the matter.
He said the appeal was filed within the 90 days stipulated by law sometime in December of last year with all the fees fully paid, after which he proceeded to the appeal office and have since been invited for settlement of records.
He said the appeal was not delayed by them but as a result of some administrative hitches in processing the documents.
He also said they have a copy of their application which has been submitted to the court.
