The Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture has put in place a surveillance team to fish-out those selling dead Croaker fish acquired along Finima and Oyorokorto rivers a few days ago.
The State Commissioner of Agriculture, Fred Kpakol in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday said as they await the results of the ongoing analysis on the fish, residents should properly examine fish they buy from the market.
Kpakol who stated that the results will be out this week, noted that they have credible information regarding how some residents are packaging and selling dead fish in the markets.
The commissioner warned residents to desist from such an act as anyone caught will be dealt with. He further urged the public to report anyone involved in the sale of dead fish.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have called on the state government to carry-out medical tests on residents of these areas because some of them may have already consumed the dead fish.
