Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has donated foodstuffs to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State. This is to help cushion the effect of the closure of businesses due to the COVID-19.
The chairman of the state palliative committee, Desmond Akawor who represented Governor Wike, directed that the items, be evenly distributed to the poor and vulnerable in the LGA. The items were donated yesterday at the Council’s headquarters.
Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Hon Gerald Oforji while receiving the items, assured the Rivers State Governor that the foodstuffs will get to the poor and less privileged in the area. He assured the Governor of their total support in the fight to rid the state of the pandemic.
Leaders and stakeholders of the various wards commended the Governor for coming to their aid in these trying times. They assured him that the poor and less privileged will get the items. They commended Gov. Wike for proactive measures taken so far by his administration.
The Governor earlier appealed to the people to continue maintaining good respiratory hygiene and all the directives by the state government. He assured the people of his administration’s resolve in ensuring that they are safe from the dreaded virus.
