The Rivers State commissioner for Information and communication, Hon. Paulinus Nsirim has stated hat those who hate the state are using social media platforms to disseminate information to the gullible public. This is in reaction to the rumoured 21 days expected lockdown in the state.
The commissioner made this known while on Rhythm FM programme, Viewpoint, today May 16 2020. He said the state government has no plans of a 21 days lockdown in the state.
Nsirim stated that since the outbreak of the virus there have been ways used in communicating to the public as relates the COVID-19. He said, Gov. Wike either chats with the media or makes a state broadcast to inform the people on developments. Sometimes the state commissioner passes the information to the people.
Paulinus during the chat equally stated that the governor does not sit on his own to determine the total number of days the lockdown will take. He meets with the security council to decide that, nobody should believe the rumour, Nsirim warned.
The rumour had been making rounds on social media platforms since yesterday, forcing residents to engage in panic buying.
