Port Harcourt, Rivers State — Students of Rivers State University (RSU) have raised concerns over the continued closure of school hostels, two months after the commencement of a new academic session.
Speaking to reporters, the students lamented the negative impact of the delayed hostel allocation, attributing it to economic challenges facing the institution. They accused the management of poor planning regarding the ongoing renovation of hostels.
In response, the President of the Student Union Government (SUG), Rizi Owabie, explained that funds for the renovations are sourced from early tuition payments. He noted that the annual maintenance is necessary due to the destructive behavior of some students.
Owabie appealed to Governor Siminialayi Fubara to support the institution by constructing additional hostels across its three campuses to ease accommodation challenges.
