The Rivers State Ministry of Power has called on residents to report malfunctioning streetlights and contractors failing in their duties, as part of efforts to ensure Port Harcourt and surrounding areas remain well-lit and secure.
In a statement released on Monday, the ministry acknowledged ongoing complaints about streetlight failures in Obiri-Ikwerre and parts of Port Harcourt. It assured the public of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commitment to resolving the issues.
Sir Engr. Meshack Orji, Technical Assistant to the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Prince Solomon Abel Eke, stated that Governor Fubara has not only ensured regular payment for streetlight maintenance since taking office but also cleared debts inherited from the previous administration.
The Power Commissioner has directed maintenance contractors to intensify their efforts, warning that negligence will not be tolerated.
