The Rivers State Government has dissolved the management, coaching crew, and staff of Rivers Angels Football Club with immediate effect, citing poor performance and a lack of commitment over the past two seasons.
The decision was announced in a dissolution notice dated June 29, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Emmanuel Ndah. The notice, addressed to head coach Tosan Blankson, brings his two-year tenure with the club to an end.
According to the directive, individuals interested in continuing with the club’s operations have been asked to submit fresh applications to the Ministry of Sports for consideration.
The decision follows Rivers Angels’ disappointing 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six campaign, where the seven-time league champions finished bottom of the standings despite hosting the competition in Port Harcourt.
The club recorded only one victory during the tournament and finished level on points with FC Robo Queens, who also knocked Rivers Angels out of the 2026 Women’s President Federation Cup at the quarter-final stage.
