The Rivers State Government has cancelled the Independence Day parade in the state as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The state government said the decision was in line with the approach adopted by the Federal Government for this year’s national celebration.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo S. A. Wokoma, the government congratulated Rivers residents and Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion.
According to the statement, the anniversary will instead be observed in a modest and purposeful manner, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion and the shared responsibility of building a stronger Nigeria.
The government urged Rivers people to mark the day with patriotism, reflection and renewed commitment to peace, unity and progress.
It wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
