Rats have allegedly eaten parts of the leg and ear of a corpse at the morgue of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

A relative of the deceased who made this known in achat with journalists, yesterday, said the dead man was his uncle who died in the hospital due to the carelessness of staff of the hospital.

According to him, after his uncle passed on, and was taken to the morgue, they came back the following day and discovered that his ears and parts of his legs have been chopped off.

He said they thought the missing parts had been taken by the morgue attendants for ritual purposes, before the hospital had to explain and convince them that they were eaten by rats.

He berated the management of the hospital over the poor state of the facility.

The state of the hospital, this past week has continued to generate negative reactions from visitors.

Efforts to reach management of the hospital to react to the incident has not been successful.
