The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has unveiled a new three-point operational strategy aimed at improving effective and sustainable waste evacuation across Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The Managing Director of the agency disclosed this while speaking on Rhythm 93.7FM’s Talk of the Town programme.
Under the new framework, all markets across the state will be assigned dedicated Private Waste Service Providers to ensure prompt, efficient and accountable waste management services.
The RIWAMA boss also announced plans for the total removal of all non-compactable waste across Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor, identifying such waste as a major contributor to persistent littering and unkempt environments, even after evacuation exercises.
As part of the measures, the agency has deployed a Rapid Intervention Team across all operational zones to monitor activities daily and respond immediately to unattended refuse and identified waste management challenges.
The Managing Director reaffirmed RIWAMA’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.
