The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has taken steps to improve its operations and staff welfare, including the renovation of its public enlightenment campaign bus and some operational vehicles.
The agency’s Managing Director, Dr. Ibimina Wokoma, disclosed this while charging the Public Orientation Department to step up public awareness campaigns on proper waste disposal and environmental sanitation.
During a meeting with the department, Wokoma emphasised the importance of understanding assigned responsibilities and working closely with other departments to enhance public enlightenment and achieve a cleaner and healthier Rivers State.
As part of efforts to improve field operations, the agency’s management has renovated the Public Orientation Department’s campaign bus to facilitate outreach activities. Some operational vehicles have also been refurbished to strengthen waste evacuation efforts and improve response to environmental sanitation needs across the state.
The management has also reactivated RIWAMA’s Sick Bay to provide first aid and immediate medical attention to staff who experience health emergencies while performing their duties.
Additionally, the agency has provided a suitable shelter for night-duty workers, with facilities to serve as resting and changing rooms.
The initiatives underscore the management’s commitment to improving staff welfare, providing a better working environment and enhancing the agency’s operational capacity.
